Genetically Modified Art - Mixed Media including AI

An exploration of the blurred boundaries between human and machine.

I realized after the fact that some of my art was exploring the blurred lines between humans and machines. Specifically, I noticed that I was using AI to make things that seemed more likely to be of human origin and then modifying them in a way that seemed more likely to come from a machine. Genetically Modified Art is my first series that intentionally explores the blurred lines humans and machines.

Most works in this series involve a multi-step creative process that involves AI at some point in the process. Some pieces are available on MakersPlace

For the Love of Machines is my first piece that intentionally explores the blurred lines between human and machine.

I used AI to create a psychedelic figurative piece comprised of DNA patterns. I then used software to provide feedback and pixelate the figure-- giving a sense of motion emanating from the heart and transcending the physical body. It feels both spiritual and mechanical.

The final touch was to add music that was synth-heavy that would sync to the heartbeat of the piece. Thanks to Alexi Action for the CC0 music Abstract World.

Finally, I chose 37 seconds of run time because science estimates that the nerves in the human body would reach a length of 37 - 45 miles. Since 37 is a prime number, it seemed a perfect mathematical analogy for this exploration.

Erosion or Deposition?
In geology erosion and deposition processes change the Earth over time. How will Artificial Intelligence change us? Will it erode our humanity? or will it make deposits in humanity that lead us toward a better future?

Echoes from the Merge is a video art piece that explores the concept of Transhumanism and technological singularity. This mixed-media piece, which incorporates AI, delves into the fear and promise of humans merging with machines. The 47-second run time is a subtle nod to the number's significance as a prime number and the thirteenth supersingular prime, which ties the number to string theory and quantum cosmology. The piece raises questions about the nature of reality and explores how merging with technology might impact our fundamental understanding of reality. The work is a visual and philosophical exploration of the human condition and our possible futures.

"Quantum Era" explores the concept of non-binary identities through the lens of quantum mechanics. The artwork envisions a future where humans embrace fluidity and complexity, much like the subatomic particles that make up the universe. It represents a shift towards a more inclusive and expansive understanding of identity and existence.
